If you’ve grown up in BC, you know about our wildfire season. Every summer, as the weather gets warmer and drier, the risk of wildfires devastating this province’s beautiful landscape becomes higher and higher. For some BC residents, these fires have forced them to evacuate their homes; impacting their lives in a big way. Per Global BC, this year’s wildfire season is the 3rd worst in BC’s history, having burnt 426,000 hectares since April. On a personal level, my family who reside in Quesnel have been keeping a very close tab on the fires this year, which have affected the nearby communities of 100 Mile House and Williams Lake significantly.
You may be wondering, what the heck do the BC wildfires have to do with craft beer? Although the two aren’t directly related, this province’s craft beer industry has always placed an importance on supporting the communities in which they reside.
A large number of BC craft breweries and craft beer-related businesses have banded together to raise money to help those affected by the BC wildfires. Organized by Tim LaHay of @bccraftbreweries and @crafttourist, the #bccraftcares campaign has raised over $3,700 for the Red Cross thus far. For those that donate to the cause, you receive an entry into a pool of 31 craft beer related prizes (all of which were donated!!) with a prize being drawn each day in August. The earlier you donate, the more prizes you have a chance to win! Here’s how to enter:
