Collective Arts Brewing – Liquid Art Fest IPA

Welcome to our first edition of #PourOfTheWeek – a new, weekly blog series where we highlight a craft beer that we’ve been enjoying (and think you would too).

Kicking off #PourOfTheWeek is the Liquid Art Fest IPA from Collective Arts Brewing based out of Hamilton, Ontario. This milkshake-style IPA features passion fruit, mango, and vanilla, and is part of the brewery’s “Collective Project” series.

This beer is named after and brewed for the art, music, and beer festival that Collective Arts Brewing hosted back in June. Some of the most celebrated craft breweries from across the globe made the trek to Hamilton to pour at Liquid Art Festival. Notables include Omnipollo from Stockholm, Mikkeller from Copenhagen, Other Half from Brooklyn, Founders from Grand Rapids, and many more.  BC’s brewers were well represented too, as Dageraad, Four Winds, and Twin Sails set up shop at the Fest.

Back to the beer…

Liquid Art Fest IPA comes in at a fairly mellow 5.9% ABV. It features Citra & Simcoe hops, and Vermont ale yeast. Lactose, oats, passion fruit and mango puree, and vanilla were added to the mix which results in a very flavourful, unfiltered beer. If you have the “haze craze” (who doesn’t at this point) you’re going to go nuts for this limited release from Collective Arts.

Upon the first few sips of the Liquid Art Fest IPA, I was getting some serious beermosa vibes. Must be all of that fruit puree! The passion fruit flavour was abundant; more so than the mango. Very tropical, indeed.  A mellow to medium bitterness came through at the end, leading to a fairly dry finish. This is definitely a sessionable beer with the reasonable alcohol percentage and fruit additions. My recommendation is to enjoy it while there’s still some nice weather to be had.
