The beer cocktail you need to try
Let’s face it, sometimes a great cocktail is a nice break from drinking beer. I love a local pint like my own unborn child, but it’s nice to mix things up from time to time.
A couple of weeks ago I remembered a drink I’d tried last summer at Alta Bistro in Whistler Village, and decided to recreate it. It combines bourbon and ginger beer into a something I can only describe as HOLY SH**… I think that’s the liquor talking. Anyways, here’s how to make what has been dubbed the Kentucky Mule, which is a variation on the popular Moscow Mule.
Serves 1:
1.5 oz. bourbon (or 2 if you like it stronger)
fresh squeezed lime juice
a couple of fresh mint leaves
top with ginger beer
I chose Wild Turkey bourbon because its delicious and reasonably priced, and Hollows & Fentimans All Natural Alcoholic Ginger Beer. This was by far the best ginger beer I’ve tried to date. Where many ginger beers come off too sweet and overpowering, this has a fresh, balanced ginger taste.
Another option is Crabbies Original, which is good but definitely on the sweeter side, or Phillips Brewing’s Ginger Beer if you’re looking for a tasty local option.
Enjoy!
