Main Street Brewing – Barking Mad Plum Porter
After a week off, we’re back with Volume 4 of our #PourOfTheWeek series. This week’s beer of choice is the Barking Mad Plum Porter from Main Street Brewing (ABV: 5 % | IBU: 15).
There’s no better way to celebrate the transition from summer to fall than pouring a delicious porter. Don’t even think about buying me a pumpkin spice latte! The folks at Main Street Brewing have made the switch from drinking patio beers to couch beers a little easier with some hefty plum additions to this beer. When I think of porters, I expect a full-bodied beer with rich flavours. However, the Barking Mad Plum Porter goes is a combination of a lighter fruit-forward beer and a traditional porter. This makes for a fairly easy-drinking yet complex beer that is sure to surprise some people.
Up front, this beer has a nice plum flavour and mild tartness, followed by chocolate notes and a biscuit malt taste. This combination through me off a little at first, but after a few more sips I really started to enjoy this beer. The plum additions became more pronounced as it warmed.
If you’re looking for an interesting new craft beer to try this October, and aren’t crazy about pumpkin beers, the Barking Mad Plum Porter is a great option. Pick up a bottle at Main Street Brewery and let me know what you think!
