Parallel 49 Brewing – Troll Juice Kveik DIPA
Can’t decide what craft beer to drink on this fine October weekend? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with Vol. 5 of our #PourOfTheWeek series.
This week we’re featuring an absolute banger of a beer from one of Vancouver’s most popular craft breweries, Parallel 49 Brewing. Troll Juice Kveik Double IPA is one of their new limited release brews that definitely belongs in your fridge, not under a bridge…
Terrible jokes aside, Troll Juice pours a very cloudy, glowing yellow colour with a solid head of foam. Take a whiff and you’ll get an aroma of tropical fruits.
Diving into the flavour profile, this beer sports a thick, full-bodied mouthfeel. I’d expect nothing less from the plump troll plastered on the can. The traditional Norwegian “Kveik” yeast gives Troll Juice it’s unique character by adding some funk and subtle spice to the mix. Pineapple and tropical fruit flavours balance a solid bitterness, making for a very well-rounded beer.
This brew is also dangerously drinkable at 7.8% ABV, so it’s best to share your four pack with friend(s)…unless you prefer a beat down by way of troll.
I would be doing this beer an injustice if I didn’t tip my cap at the fantastic label artwork from Combination13, who has been instrumental in developing Parallel 49’s brand identity and designing their product packaging. The lettering used for “Troll Juice” even looks like an extension of the troll itself, tying the design together nicely. Well done!
A big thanks to Parallel 49 Brewing for hooking us up with this tasty double IPA. Looking forward to trying more new releases from this popular #YeastVan brewery, which seem to be a weekly occurrence.
